More About Our Walking Tours

Each tour lasts two to two and a half hours and covers an area of about 18 city blocks. Points of interest include St. Michael’s Church and graveyard, the Battery and Rainbow Row, Grand Homes of Charleston as well as former Slave Dwellings. Our steps will trace Charleston’s early years as a walled city fortified against pirates of the early 18th century and other outside dangers. Discover how the Carolina Colony attracted its early settlers and how Charleston got its nickname “The Holy City.” You will learn about Charleston’s rich cultural history and its days as a leading rice producing colony. We’ll examine how slavery played an important role during this period of great wealth. Walk through the streets that inspired Porgy and Bess during the early 1900s and witness how they have been beautifully restored over time. Every step of our tour promises glimpses of gardens and grand homes and the efforts throughout our city to preserve its glorious past.
